While studying this mini unit, they will also learn about who St. Valentine was, the story of Cupid and his love with Psyche, why do people exchange chocolate boxes and who was the inventor of the first chocolate box.
They will get creative while watching a video and guessing the reasons behind the protagonist's actions. They will learn more about the love story 'Mind the gap'. They will engage in writing a love letter.
The unit will be concluded with a revision crossword which will bring them back to the very first activity to review the vocabulary words learned in it.

Mini ESL unit about summer holidays and tropical destinations. It includes 5 reading passages about summer holiday destination (Mauritius, Fiji, Tenerife, Greece, Madagascar). Students will read but also solve vocabulary puzzles and write postcards. Very engaging but also full of content.
►LEARNING OUTCOMES◄
GENERAL: Students will learn plenty of new vocabulary words through engaging and challenging activities. They will work individually, in pairs or in small groups to include variety in lesson dynamics.
SPECIFIC: This mini unit is all about spectacular holiday destination. The 5 articles are about Mauritius, Fiji, Tenerife, Greece and Madacascar. Students will learn about tourist attractions and the beauties of such places. They will engage in 5 different activities to learn new vocabulary words. After that they will write postcards.
I have organized my class into 5 teams around 5 stations, having one article each. Students had between 10 to 15 minutes to complete one task before moving to the next stations. My students have really enjoyed this activity and it turned quite competitive after the first round!

Before getting to read the texts, students can work in pairs to match words with pictures. Reading comprehension 1 is about the year of the monkey and the meaning behind it. Students can work on this text on their own or in pairs. For the second text, which is split in 4, I suggest to create 4 station and make students rotate in order to find out 10 facts about Chinese New Year through 4 different and engaging activities. They will, then, engage in a writing activity to compare Asian and Western traditions. The unit will be concluded with a revision crossword which will bring them back to the very first activity to review the vocabulary words learned in it.

This mini units opens with a class discussion about New Year and related traditions. Before getting to read the texts, students can work in pairs to match words with pictures and to match words with definitions. They can, then, get engaged in the reading of the article about the history of new year resolutions by filling the blanks. The second speaking activity should be done in pairs. Students will interview each other about their resolutions and will then summarize their findings in writing. This piece of writing can be either produced in class or given as a homework assignment. With the second reading activity students will learn about new year traditions in 5 different countries. They will do so through 3 engaging activities: match countries with their flags, match countries with their tradition and a crossword.
